Wine Tasting!

Wine Tasting!

Join us Friday June 24 from 4PM to 7PM when we will taste the…

Renwood 2006 Barbera

This $5.99 Wine Merchants Special is a perfect wine for anything on the Summer grill!

Winemaker’s Notes

The 2006 “Red Label” Barbera displays aromas of black currant and cola. On the palate the wine has more tannin than we normally see in Barbera, with a smooth core of dark fruit flavors. Crisp acidity is Barbara’s signature trait which makes this wine so mouthwatering.  A finish that lingers, with flavors of plum and cassis, balances the wine.

Join us and check out our selection of Summer Grillin Wines!

Just Tasted!

Yesterday I had the pleasure of trying two California Pinot Noirs!

I hope to add them to the store inventory soon!

Rickshaw 2009 Pinot Noir

Rickshaw is a fun, lip-smacking Pinot Noir perfect for picnics, sneaking into movie theaters and other such shenanigans. It is a blend made from a couple of sources scattered throughout Sonoma County. The resulting wine has hallmark Pinot spice on the nose and fills the mouth with juicy red and blue fruits. Very smooth. We have bottled Rickshaw under screwcap for convenience and quality control.

And…

Banshee 2009 Pinot Noir

Oozing class, this beauty does everything that top-notch pinot noir should do…and then some.

A blend of two top-notch vineyards, one in the Petaluma Wind Gap (Sonoma Coast) and one from Russian River Valley. The Sonoma County is a complex pinot with dark cherry fruit and sweet earthen minerality held together by bright acidity and long, ripe tannins.

Watch for the upcoming  ROSÈ Post!

New Arrivals!

We just brought in three more New Wines!

Two Red Blends fromCalifornia!

The First –

Red Rock Winery 2009 Winemaker’s Blend – $9.99

“For our Red Rock Winery 2009 Winemaker’s Blend, we chose Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah to create a truly balanced wine. Petite Sirah typically features small berries, resulting in a high skin to juice ratio. The Petite Sirah in this blend contributes an inky color and jammy fruit aromas; the purple-black hue of this blend hints at the depth of flavor in the glass.

Our Winemaker’s Blend exhibits concentrated aromas of dark berry jam and boysenberry, offering a plush mouthfeel with flavors of blackberry, light brown spice and vanilla.”

Also –

 Bridlewood Winery 2009 Blend 175

Robert Parker Scores The 2009 Blend 175 89 points
“Abundant black currant fruit notes intermixed with hints of white chocolate, pepper and earth. It is a spicy, delicious, endearing, medium-bodied red with exuberant fruit as well as a boisterous personality.”

And from Spain comes –

Rioja Vega 2009 Cosecha – $9.99

Made from Tempranillo, Mazuelo and Garnacha grapes. Picked at their optimal ripeness. Careful ageing for twelve months in oak casks, followed by at least a further six months in the bottle. The result is a complex wine, rich in aromas and flavours. Clean, bright ruby red with aromas of vanilla, toast and spices. Well-structured, meaty and balanced in the mouth.–Winemakers Note

All three of these wines are perfect for what ever you are barbecuing!

Recently Tried

This past weekend I got to re-visit a grape I hadn’t had in a long time, Bonarda.

Originally from Italy this grape now grows abundantly in Argentina.

The wine I tasted was the –

Tilia 2009 Bonarda

The 2009 Tilia Bonarda has a deep purple color.

The nose shows ripe red fruits with a hint of violets and anis.

The mouthfeel is sweet and juicy with raspberry and cherry fruit flavors with spicy black pepper notes.

The finish is soft and sweet, with round, velvety tannins.

It is a perfect Summer Grillin’ wine and will be available in the store early next week.

At $9.99 it is well worth trying!

Looking for a something different White wine to try this Summer?

I recently opened a bottle of  –

Pirie 2006 South – Estelle

An interesting blend of 50% Riesling – 30% Gewurztraminer – 20% Pinot Gris

Given the amount of Riesling and Gewurztraminer this wine was not as sweet as I thought it would be.

In fact it was rather clean and crisp.

It went well with grilled salmon, but I think it would go better with most shell fish.

At $7.99 it is worth trying.

Milbrandt Vineyards 2007 “The Estate” Malbec

$18.99

My personal feelings about Malbec is that it is a good “food” wine.

When I am finished eating I am finished drinking a Malbec.

Until I tried this one…

It WOWED me!

Unlike it’s Argentina predecessor, this Washington state wine doesn’t have the “smokey” (?) characteristic that I think goes with food. This is a very smooth wine with soft fruit and is rather full bodied. I will pair this with a nice steak on the grill over the coming summer months!

New Arrival!
